Carson, a native of Springdale, is credited with launching the modern environmental movement. She is the subject of a new “American Experience” documentary airing Jan. 24 on PBS.

Drawn from Carson’s own writings, “Rachel Carson” illuminates both the public and private life of the woman who transformed our thinking about the natural world and launched the environmental movement. Featuring the voice of Mary-Louise Parker as Rachel Carson, the film premieres at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24 on “American Experience” on WQED-TV.
