Watch: Crossing Pittsburgh’s Sixth Street Bridge in 1902

This may be the earliest film footage of the Pittsburgh region.

Among his many accomplishments, Thomas Edison is also referred to as the “Father of Motion Pictures” for his work developing the equipment to film and watch movies. Among his films was this trip in 1902 across the Sixth Street Bridge from Downtown Pittsburgh to the city of Allegheny (later annexed by Pittsburgh in 1907 and now called the North Side). WQED added the ragtime music to make the ride a bit more enjoyable.
