An affiliate museum of the Senator John Heinz History Center, Meadowcroft is the oldest known site of human habitation in North America. Fourth at the Fort
July 4 | Fort Pitt Museum
Kick off America’s 250th birthday at historic Point State Park for a special Fourth at the Fort celebration at the Fort Pitt Museum and Fort Pitt Block House. Join costumed re-enactors, local veterans, scouts, elected officials, and museum staff to ceremoniously raise a 36-foot American flag as part of a moving patriotic ceremony to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The ceremony — an annual Fourth of July tradition in Pittsburgh — will take place in the Fort Pitt Block House yard, thanks to an ongoing partnership with the Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. Built in 1764, the Block House remains the oldest surviving building in Western Pa. After the ceremony, spend the afternoon immersed in Revolutionary-era excitement with booming cannon firings, martial music, living history demonstrations and hands-on family fun throughout the site.
