Ten Evenings Lecture Series Opens with “The Vanishing Half” author Brit Bennett
Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures' 2021 events will be virtual with a return to the Carnegie Music Hall in January.
While the uncertainty of gathering in-person continues, Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures made the difficult decision to continue virtual programming through the end of the year with hopes of returning the Ten Evenings series to the historic Carnegie Music Hall in 2022. The season opens on Monday, Sept. 20 with critically acclaimed and bestselling author Brit Bennett.
“We wish we could be welcoming our fall authors and our audience back to the hall. It was a tough call, however, we are grateful to the authors for going the extra mile to create compelling virtual lectures and to our audience for staying with us,” says Executive Director Stephanie Flom.
“Currently only virtual subscriptions and single tickets are on sale. Once we know that we can safely gather in the Music Hall, we’ll begin to sell in-person seats. Season subscribers will receive priority seating with an advanced sale period.”
In addition to Brit Bennett, the all-star lineup of literary superstars includes journalist Lawrence Wright author of The Plague Year; novelist Yaa Gyasi author of Transcendent Kingdom; short story writer George Saunders with A Swim in a Pond in the Rain; environmental essayist Robin Wall Kimmerer speaking on Braiding Sweetgrass; and concludes with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Isabel Wilkerson author of Caste.
Flom is enthusiastic about presenting these authors, whether virtually or in person. “There have been so many incredible books that got me through the challenge and isolation of the pandemic. I suspect I am not alone in experiencing a special connection to these books and I am thrilled to present so many of these extraordinary writers this coming year. It will be quite a celebration when we return to the Hall with Booker Prize-winner Douglas Stuart, author of Shuggie Bain on January 24, 2022.
