Special Delivery: 1000s of AHN Storks Land at Point State Park

As runners dashed toward the finish line of the Pittsburgh Great Race Sunday, Sept. 25, they were greeted by thousands of storks lining portions of Point State Park.

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) celebrated more than 6,500 babies delivered at AHN hospital last year with an eye-catching display of a flock of storks. They were living proof that families trust AHN’s expertise in maternity care.

AHN and Highmark employees teamed up to share information about the health network’s maternity facilities, and heard many heartwarming stories about the exemplary care their families received at AHN.

One man said employees at West Penn Hospital “treated my family like their family” when his wife recently gave birth.

Carly, who gave birth at the Women and Infants Center at Jefferson Hospital last July, teared up when she talked about how much she loved the care she and new son Mason received.

Other attendees signed storks with the names of their children and families, and shared pictures of the storks on social media, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, using our #LivingProof tag. Many families were given a green AHN “onesie” as a thank-you for posting on social media.

AHN had so many babies born at its hospitals last year that event coordinators couldn’t fit all of the storks at Point State Park.

But the entire flock is expected to land at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium later next month.

The storks will be on display from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 22 and 23, and again Oct. 29 and 30, at the annual Zoo Boo.

Please share the good news about AHN’s maternity services with families as they choose where to make their special delivery.

Among the reasons to choose AHN:

  • State-of-the-art birthing suites designed for comfort and family bonding.

  • Expert care for high-risk pregnancies.

  • Level II and III neonatal intensive care units (NICUs)

  • Education and support for successful breastfeeding.

AHN’s maternity facilities are easily accessible, at West Penn Hospital, Forbes Hospital, Jefferson Hospital, and Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie.
