Real Pittsburgh Wedding: Tyler and Danielle Were Friends First Before Romance Took Hold
Tyler Hughes and Danielle Fehrs knew one another for most of their lives.
When Tyler Met Danielle
Tyler Hughes and Danielle Fehrs’ families were close practically all their lives. Tyler and Danielle’s older sister, Jamie, were the same age and best friends. In high school, Tyler and Jamie’s group of friends created a “family tree,” giving each friend a role: brother, sister, son, daughter, etc.
“He told everybody that I was his wife in the family tree,” Danielle says. “He always called me wifey, and I always thought he was just joking … but he always had the biggest crush on me.”
Years went by and they both dated other people. Danielle looked at him as an older brother and sought his advice in her relationships.
In 2015, when Danielle was home on Christmas break, both were single and hanging out at a mutual friend’s house. At the end of the night, Tyler kissed her.
“He was always my favorite out of my sister’s friends,” Danielle says. “He was so funny, he was so cute and I just loved being around him, so whenever he kissed me, I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is crazy.’ And I kind of honestly knew that I was going to marry him.”
She Said Yes
In 2020, Tyler purchased a ring but held on to it for months, waiting for the right moment. When he and Danielle attended the wedding of his best friend, he knew he couldn’t wait any longer to experience that kind of joy.
He and Danielle were supposed to host their families that Sunday for the Cleveland Browns home opener. Danielle arrived last because she had to stop by her parents’ house first, and she was surprised to find the door locked. She dug out her keys, opened the door, and there was Tyler on one knee.
“There’s a video of it, and I drop all my stuff and I start crying and I run into his arms and hug him and he was like, ‘I didn’t even say anything yet,’” she recalls.
The Big Day
With a guest list of 450, the pair chose the Omni William Penn Hotel, Downtown, which was transformed with a custom dance floor and breathtaking head table canopy.
The couple didn’t want to do a first look; instead, they did a first touch around a corner, read each other their vows and said a prayer.
“We had been texting each other and we were both saying how anxious we were and we hated that we couldn’t see each other,” Danielle says. “It was really nice to hold his hand and talk to him. It was so calming.”
Happily Ever After
Danielle, 29, and Tyler, 30, both work for Danielle’s family company, Treloar & Heisel, which handles insurance and wealth management for medical professionals. They live in New Castle with their dog and hope to start a family soon.
