Popular Summertime Hotspot in Wexford Is Closing

The Cabana Bar will serve its final drinks next month.

There’s nothing like enjoying a cool drink under the stars on a warm summer night. For 15 years, customers flocked to The Cabana Bar in Wexford for such an experience. That comes to an end when the bar and restaurant, located on the grounds of the Oxford Athletic Club, closes next month.

In a post on the bar’s Facebook page, owner Mark Baranowski invited customers and past and present employees for the The Cabana Bar’s farewell weekend to be held beginning Thursday, June 1.

“We hope to see all of you who worked and/or frequented our establishment over the years and made the Cabana Bar the ‘best ever’ outdoor bar in Pittsburgh,” says Baranowski.

Baranowski, owner of a chain of restaurants that includes North Park Lounges in McCandless and Murrysville, offered no reason for the closing. However, he did say that a new North Park Lounge would be opening in Lawrenceville later this summer.

Baranowski bought the former Gus’s Cafe at 4717 Butler St.

“We’re pretty excited about that whole area of Lawrenceville,” Baranowski told the Pittsburgh Business Times. “There’s so many people moving in down there … I think there really is a niche for North Park Lounge.”

That news is apparently small consolation to the dozens of Cabana Bar fans, who expressed their disappointment on the bar’s Facebook page.
