Dressed like a cast member of “Duck Dynasty,” Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto moonlighted for a week last fall in a variety of city jobs for an upcoming episode of CBS’s “Undercover Boss.”
His disguise clearly worked, with word of the undercover operation not getting out until late Thursday.
The filming lasted a little less than a week when the mayor collected trash, installed doors, acted as a self-sufficiency coordinator and cut down dead trees, according to CBS.
“I would get up every morning at 5 a.m., spend two hours getting into costume, go out do the thing, come back, take the costume off, put on my suit and then go to work going to events until 10 or 11 p.m., come back get five or six hours of sleep, do it again,” he told KDKA TV.
Despite the grueling hours, the Mayor agreed to it for several reasons.
“One was to see what people say about you when they don’t know who you are,” he told KDKA. “Second was to really be able to highlight Pittsburgh’s change and the third was to be able to help people and anyone that knows the show knows that people’s lives get changed.”
For the moment, the Mayor says his TV career is back on hold.
“It was completely exhausting,” he said. “It would probably be the biggest reason why I wouldn’t do it again.”
