Pittsburgh's Joe Manganiello to Host NHL Awards
The noted Pittsburgh sports fan, who can be seen on social media supporting the Penguins in their Stanley Cup championship run, will share the stage with some of the league’s biggest hockey stars.
Hockey and non-hockey fans alike both will have good reason to tune in to the National Hockey League Awards next week.
Pittsburgh-bred heartthrob, and noted local sports fan, Joe Manganiello will host the 2017 NHL Awards and NHL Expansion Draft Wednesday, June 21 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
He also will reveal the first members of the NHL’s 31st team, The Vegas Golden Knights, at the franchise’s new home. Daren Millard of Sportsnet and Kathryn Tappen of NBC will MC the expansion draft.
The live broadcast of the event, which honors the best hockey players and top performances of the 2016-17 season, kicks off at 8 p.m. on NBCSN.
“I’m incredibly honored and excited to be sharing a stage with so many all-time and current NHL superstars to celebrate the greatest players in the game today,” Manganiello says in a statement.
The Mount Lebanon export, perhaps most known for his role as a chiseled stripper in the Magic Mike movies, is a well-documented Pittsburgh sports fan.
On any given Sunday during the NFL season, he can be seen sporting black and gold. He also converted his wife, Modern Family actress Sofia Vergara, into a reluctant Steelers fan.
Judging from his most recent Instagram and Twitter feeds — which feature a number of posts in support of the Penguins’ Stanley Cup run — he also has turned Vergara into a Pens fan. One picture from last year's playoffs shows both husband and wife sporting Penguins-themed gear.
On that note, Nashville can keep Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban. We’ll stick with Joe and Sofia.
