Pittsburgh's Can't Miss Concerts in September
This month's lineup includes Deep Purple, Alice Cooper, Luke Bryan and Ed Sheeran.

Sept. 9/ The only way to pay appropriate tribute to an icon such as the Man in Black is with a celebration that is itself becoming iconic. Enter Johnny Cash Day. Now in its 13th year, the party features four local bands playing the music of, and inspired by, the late country star. This year’s acts include The Beagle Brothers, Standard Moves, Brewer’s Row and The Neighborhood. Black hat encouraged, but not required. Sept. 17/ When “The Life Aquatic” made its cinematic debut in 2004, it quickly took on cult status. It seemed on every corner there was a behatted devotee sporting the customary red knit, quoting Bill Murray, and humming bars from the soundtrack’s bespoke David Bowie covers, as performed by Brazilian musician Seu Jorge. Join Jorge as he revisits the beloved soundtrack and memorializes the late Starman in Seu Jorge Presents: The Life Aquatic, A Tribute to David Bowie. Sept. 16/ Sylvan Esso may be the quintessential millennial band. The indie duo layers synth-heavy electropop with lilting vocals and lyrics that are complex and full-bodied, ranging from foul-mouthed to emotional, wry to deeply sincere. The result is a success, equally enjoyed at a dance party or over a contemplative breakfast of avocado toast. (Stage AE, 400 North Shore Drive, North Shore; 412/229-5483, promowestlive.com)
