Aug. 25/ Fifty years after its release, “Pet Sounds” — the critically acclaimed album by surf rockers The Beach Boys — still is considered to be one of the most innovative and enduring rock albums of all time. In what is sure to be an indelible performance, frontman Brian Wilson, joined by fellow former Beach Boys Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin, will present the iconic album. Aug. 6/ Girls Rock! Pittsburgh is not your average summer camp. There is no bug juice, no sunburn. Instead, the camp brings together a group of girls ages 8-18 to write, record and perform original music. The Pittsburgh camp is part of an international alliance, and while programming is unique in each city, the overarching mission is a shared one: to embolden young women and engender new talents, with the amp turned way up. The public showcase gives the community a chance to celebrate the Girls Rock! campers and their creative achievements, the culmination of what is arguably some of the summer’s best local music in one evening. (Winchester Thurston School, 555 Morewood Ave., Shadyside; girlsrockpittsburgh.org)

Aug. 23/ The end of August always brings with it a particular tinge of melancholy; tans fade, grills are cleaned and put away, and the inevitable passage of time no longer is bleached and slowed by long days in the sun. Jimmy Buffett’s “I Don’t Know” tour will be cruising into the area to provide one last burst of tropical rock to keep the summer going a little longer. Because, as we all know, the sun never sets on Margaritaville. (First Niagara Pavilion, 665 Route 18, Burgettstown; 724/947-7400, livenation.com)
