Pittsburgh Puppy to Compete in This Year’s Puppy Bowl
Animal Friend’s alum Kenny will play for Team Ruff during Puppy Bowl XVI.
While Sunday is a big day for sports fans, for a particular Pittsburgher puppy, it will be his chance to take home the prize for his pack.
Animal Friends alum Kenny, a mix of golden retriever and boxer, will be one of the competitors for Team Ruff in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl XVI. The pup will compete against Team Fluff in hopes of taking home the coveted Chewy “Lombarky” Trophy.
The Puppy Bowl is an annual event hosted by Animal Planet that puts a cute and fluffy spin on the Super Bowl. The two teams of dogs try to “score” on their opponents to win the trophy. Featuring plenty of cute moments, including a Kitty Half-Time Show, the Puppy Bowl is hosted to bring representation to puppies from shelters across the United States.
Kenny was transferred to the Animal Friends shelter in September 2019 from one of its partner organizations. A short time after he arrived, Kenny traveled to New York for the filming of the Puppy Bowl competition. Upon returning to the shelter, he was adopted by his new family.
To celebrate Kenny’s time on the national stage, Animal Friends will hold its own event in hopes of finding other dogs their forever homes. The shelter will host Adopt-a-Bowl on Saturday at its location on Camp Horne Road.
Sports fans can cheer on Kenny in Puppy Bowl XVI at 2 p.m. Sunday. The network will also host The Dog Bowl III at 8 p.m., which showcases adult and senior dogs from various shelters.
