Pittsburgh Dancer Shows Grace Comes in All Sizes

Erik Cavanaugh says he is “attempting to change the mind and shape of dancers” and judging from his recent online popularity, he may be doing it.

When Eric Cavanaugh isn't serving customers at Beto's Pizza on Banksville Road, the 23-year-old Slippery Rock University graduate is working on his dance moves.

Cavanaugh is shaped more like a linebacker than a ballet dancer. On his Instagram account, he says he's “attempting to change the mind and shape of dancers.” Judging from his growing online popularity, he may be doing it.

Videos of Cavanaugh's solo, often improvised performances have gone viral. He's been interviewed by Forbes Magazine, the Huffington Post, and People Magazine, just to name a few.

“It’s been kind of insane,” Cavanaugh told Forbes. “I know that I don’t look like a typical dancer. The Internet isn’t expecting me to jump high and things like that. I try not to let any of it bother me.

“I am not ashamed of who I am, he said. I’m trying to inspire children that may look like myself that all dreams are capable.”

You can see and hear more from Cavanaugh in this recent interview with People Magazine.
