Confession of the Week: I still get butterflies in my stomach on the Big Day.
Throughout my life I’ve had a few Big Days—the birth of my daughter Marissa, the birth of my son Miles, graduating college, paying off college (not yet happened, but when that Big Day hits you’ll feel the earth move from me doing the jig for an entire day) and of course my wedding day.
I had my Big Day almost ten years ago when I joyfully said, “I do” to my husband Marvin. We had a beautiful ceremony at Heinz Chapel in Oakland, with a festive reception of 100 guests gathered at the Westin William Penn, downtown (today it’s the Omni William Penn). I don’t remember much of the little details, except that Marvin and I were happy with all the hard work we put in. Together we planned for a great day and hoped for the best—hoped the flowers arrived on time, hoped the cake made it safely to the ceremony, hoped the food was still as tasty as we remembered from our tasting months previous. It was a big accomplishment.
A new Big Day I’m looking forward to actually comes Wednesday, May 26.
