Stocking up on certain kinds of liquor is about to be more difficult.

The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board notified license holders on Thursday that state-run stores will enforce a two-bottles-per-day purchase limit on specific kinds of bourbon, champagne, tequila, whiskey and cognac in response to supply chain shortages.

The limits impact customers as well as restaurants, bars and other license holders looking to purchase the 42 items on the list. Rationed liquor will also be unavailable through store-to-store transfers.

The policy will remain in place indefinitely until the supply chain becomes more steady, according to the PLCB.

“If you take a look at stories that have come out from around the country because of COVID-19, supply chains have been disrupted, production has been disrupted,” Shawn Kelly, a PLCB spokesperson told the Associated Press. “In some cases there have been shortages of cans and bottles.”

While the PLCB’s two-bottle limit policy will only impact those looking to purchase certain liquor in large quantities, the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association says the policy will pose a challenge for businesses.

“Supply and labor issues are not helping with recovery,” it said in a statement. “We hope the Legislature will take all of this into consideration when they return to Harrisburg. The industry still needs help moving forward.”
