Oakmont Bakery owners Marc and Susan Serrao are finally unwrapping their new location.

After plans for relocation were announced in December 2017, permit issues and bad weather slightly delayed construction, but a ribbon cutting has now been set for 9 a.m. on Tuesday, pending inspections.

The current location at 531 Allegheny Ave. will close at 5 p.m. Monday for the final time.

The new two-story building is on the corner of Third Street and Hulton Road, across the street from Riverview High School, which is just over a half-mile away from the previous location.

This isn’t the first time the family has moved baking operations to a bigger building. The original shop, which opened in 1988 on Allegheny River Boulevard, was a 1,200-square-foot storefront. After five years, the business relocated to a 12,500-square-foot space on Allegheny Avenue.

The newest space is 19,000 square feet, and the parking lot has increased dramatically, with 110 spaces, compared to the eight spaces the old lot held.

The new location boasts longer display cases, additional cash registers and expanded indoor and outdoor seating. The cafe portion will now have 80 indoor and 80 outdoor seats, as well as new items added to the cafe menu.

The second story will house offices, restrooms and an extended break room for employees that includes a kitchen area. After the opening, the bakery plans to add 20 employees to its current workforce of 110.

Regular hours will return to 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. after the grand opening.
