No Sh*t: Local Theater Raised $23,168 in 1 Day

An unforgettable fundraiser shows how creativity and community support can make a big difference.

Arcade Comedy Theater could have bought a new commuter car with the amount of money they raised this past Giving Tuesday: $23,168. But as Pittsburgh’s nonprofit home for live comedy, they have their sights set on something bigger than a new set of wheels.

How Money Makes Yinz Laugh

The funds raised during Give Big Pittsburgh help Arcade continue to:

  • Compensate local artists
  • Keep ticket prices affordable and accessible
  • Sustain internships and adult comedy education
  • Expand outreach performances throughout the community
  • Support emerging and experimental comedic work
  • Continue diversity and inclusion training for staff and leadership
  • Maintain a welcoming creative space where Pittsburghers can gather, connect, and laugh together

And although Arcade may be known for showcasing virtuosic improv skills, they didn’t raise that much money just by winging it.

A Campaign Worth Applauding

Their campaign, #GiveBigLaughs, earned Pittsburgh Magazine’s Campaign MVP prize for its highly creative and authentic campaign strategy. The campaign combined social content, donor matching challenges, peer-led livestream fundraisers, email and phone outreach, and in-theater promotion while actively adapting tactics in real time to sustain momentum throughout the day.

As a result, Arcade kept exceeding its own fundraising milestones throughout the day. After they hit their initial goal of $15,000 by 4 PM, they stretched it to $18,000. Then $20,000. Ultimately, they raised $23,168 (155% of their original goal).
