The roar of engines will be thundering through the streets of Pittsburgh for the 34th annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP).
There will be plenty of horsepower to go around during the 10-day event, which features thousands of cars from across the globe. Shelby Cobras, Lamborghini Diablos, Ford GT40s, Ferrari F50s, Porsche 911s and even sexy staples like the infamous Aston Martin DB5 — the original James Bond car — will decorate the streets of the Steel City throughout the week in a series of events.
This weekend kicks off with the Jazz & Jaguars: Blacktie and Tailpipe Gala on Friday, July 8 at the Allegheny Country Club. The event, which will feature a live performance from the Benny Benack III Jazz Trio, pays homage to vintage car culture with great food and fantastic music. Tickets are still available for the event.
Next to the races themselves, Wednesday’s scheduled events may provide the next largest crowd as the Downtown Parade and Plaza Display kicks off at 10:30 a.m. The parade is scheduled to run through U.S. Steel Plaza, PPG Place, Market Square and Point State Park. Attendees can see their favorite muscle cars and vintage racers as the motorcade makes its paces through downtown Pittsburgh.
Fans who want to get a closer look at the action should make a post-work trip to PNC Park Wednesday evening for the 11th annual Tune-up Party at Atria’s. The Roberto Clemente Bridge and Federal Street will be shut down as dozens of drivers show off phenomenal sets of wheels.
The PVGP celebration comes to a frantic finish on July 16 and 17 with the International Car Show and Grand Prix races at Schenley Plaza. The car show opens at 11 a.m., when fans will have the chance to inspect nearly 2,000 cars from across the world including British and Italian gems.
