Let’s hear it for the boys of winter. European brands set the tone for laid-back luxury this season, and American menswear designers echo the theme. From the relaxed ease of casual ensembles to the spit-polished elegance of tailored suits, the trend is tradition with a twist. Familiar classics are updated to elevate a more mature athletic esthetic: sweatpants with tech details, fur-trimmed bomber jackets, high-top athletic shoes sporting side zippers that make laces incidental. Black, blues, grays and browns emerge and merge as primary colors. Warm knits pack visual punch in stripes, herringbone and houndstooth. Plaids and checks embolden shirts, pants, jackets and scarves. Texture is king, and there’s a dose of swagger everywhere.
