On April 1-3, local university choirs will perform at Heinz Hall with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. The Grove City Touring Choir and others from Washington & Jefferson, Duquesne University, Chatham University and St. Vincent College are joining to create a 138-member “All University Choir.”
For the weekend shows, the students will be under the direction of music director Manfred Honeck and have been rehearsing under Robert Page, director emeritus of the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh. Honeck was instrumental in the creation of the All University Choir due to his desire to connect great, established performers with talented musicians at the collegiate level.
Grove City College announced the concert earlier this month, and Dr. Katherine Mueller, assistant professor of music and director of Choral Activities, says “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students of Grove City College to sing with one of the premier orchestras in the United States and a can’t-miss opportunity for friends, families and supporters of Grove City to hear a wonderful concert.”
The Grove City Touring Choir performs during an annual spring tour, at campus events and for churches and schools in western Pennsylvania. The choir is an extracurricular activity, and the students regularly perform under Dr. Mueller.
