For the last eight years, Pittsburgh-based Koppers – a global leader in wood preservation technologies – and its team of employees have shared an annual fall tradition of coming together in a big way to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Light The Night Walk.

This year, the Light The Night Walk returns to the North Shore at Acrisure Stadium on Thursday, October 13, with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m.  During the event, participants symbolically light the dark world of cancer by carrying illuminated lanterns to show how their lives have been affected by blood cancer: red for supporters, white for survivors, and gold for those walking in memory of a loved one lost to cancer.  It is truly a unique and moving experience to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by blood cancers.  The event raised nearly $700,000 in 2021 with funds raised going towards lifesaving research, advocacy and support for blood cancer patients and their families.

As a leading corporate sponsor of the Light The Night Walk in Pittsburgh, Koppers is continuing its tradition of engaging employees in a pre-walk workplace giving campaign that includes activities like bingo, cornhole tournaments, giant Jenga games, and more.  Additionally, LLS is an ongoing beneficiary of the Koppers/Pittsburgh Pirates strikeout program in which Koppers donates $50 every time a Pirates pitcher strikes out a player from an opposing team.

Koppers is also proud to lend key leadership participation, with company CEO Leroy Ball serving as both a member of the LLS Board of Directors and – new this year – as National Ambassador for the Light The Night Walk.  Additionally, Kip Kuzior, Tax Manager, is a member of the local LLS Executive Leadership Committee and Olivia Test, Executive Assistant, is participating in the LLS Emerging Leaders fundraising challenge.

“At Koppers, our guiding purpose is Protecting What Matters and Preserving The Future,” said Koppers President & CEO Leroy Ball.  “The important work done by LLS offers our team an opportunity to demonstrate that belief in a very tangible, hands-on, and meaningful way.  Our team members – many of whom are connected to mission-impacted individuals – are always more than willing to rally around LLS knowing their efforts are truly making a difference. For these reasons and many more, Koppers is proud to be a sponsor and partner.”
