High and Dry Fun at the Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival

High seas kept the mythical boats out of the water, but that didn't stop revelers from having a blast.

Hundreds of people showed up for this year’s Dragon Boat Festival, but there was one problem: no dragon boats. The Monongahela River flowed too high, and carried too much debris, to make for safe paddling. Races were cancelled, and the world’s most elegant watercraft never appeared.

But that fact did not deter the crowds of visitors, for there is more to the Dragon Boat Festival than elongated teak canoes. In a shaded South Side park, revelers enjoyed carnival food, a craft fair, and martial arts demonstrations. Street View was on the scene to capture some moments.
