Pittsburgh Magazine and our partners honor the hometown heroes making a difference in regional health care.
The sixth-annual 2021 Excellence in Nursing program honors eight nurses from around the region and 24 honorable mention awardees. The program, which was first broadcast on Jan. 6, is hosted by KDKA Radio’s Rick Dayton and was videotaped in the historic Urban Room of the Omni William Penn.
The honorees were selected by a distinguished panel of judges, chaired by Mary Ellen Glasgow, dean and professor at Duquesne University School of Nursing.
The Excellence in Nursing honorees include:
Pandemic Response Hero: Pauline Hutsler, Heritage Valley Health System registered nurse working in critical care, open-heart surgery and step-down open-heart units.
Leader: Maribeth McLaughlin, UPMC vice president of operations of UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital, vice president of women’s health service line.
Emerging Leader: Jeffrey Bomba, AHN Jefferson Hospital, ICU patient care manager.
Advanced Practitioner: Retired Maj. William Pileggi, VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, certified registered nurse anesthetist.
Clinician: Shenoa Jamieson, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, pediatric nurse practitioner.
Community: Alexis Myers, UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, certified pediatric nurse practitioner and pediatric primary care mental health specialist.
Academic: Ruth Madden Foreman, Carlow University, assistant professor of nursing, graduate nurse practitioner programs, College of Health & Wellness.
Researcher: Alison Colbert, Duquesne University School of Nursing, associate professor.
