Haute Seat: Lady Luxe
As an entrepreneur, interior designer, mother, humanitarian and owner of Weisshouse in Shadyside, Stacy Weiss finds the most luxurious furniture, flooring and accessories for everyhouse.
A family-owned business for over 50 years, Weisshouse has been known for their products, customer service and client satisfaction. Stacy Weiss joined the store in her early 20s and started working in the blind department. “By osmosis I learned how to sell things,” says Weiss, “It was the best decision I ever made.” Today, Weiss, the mother of five, owns the business and is proud to say that she never took a business course. “It’s my passion for design and beauty that keeps me moving forward. It’s been twenty-eight years since I started here and I’ve never looked back.”
High End on Highland
Nestled among antique shops and interior design stores on Highland Avenue in Shadyside the design and beauty aspect of the furnishings offered at Weisshouse is in abundance. From being Western Pennsylvania’s exclusive resource for B&B Italia, Ligne Roset, Flexform and Poliform/Varenna, Weisshouse also features housewares from Ralph Lauren, Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams, Gus and Calvin Klein, to name a few. Ingrid Nagin, Weisshouse’s graphic designer and marketing coordinator adds, “Stacy has her finger on the pulse of where furniture is going.”
The Other White House Is Calling
When the G-20 came to Pittsburgh last fall, Weiss was invited to be the decorator for the Presidential room at the Phipps Conservatory & Botanical Gardens (phipps.conservatory.org) in Schenley Park. President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama welcomed G-20 leaders to the United States at a reception at Phipps on Thurs., Sept., 24 and Weisshouse provided the sofa, tables, accessories and artwork for the secure room in which the meet and greet took place. “It was a great honor to be a part of something so historic,” says Weiss.
Style & Substance
Not only recognized as a fashion-forward furniture destination, Weisshouse is proud to also be known for the amount of charities they give back to. “We support over 150 local and national charities each year,” says Weiss. A few include Planned Parenthood (plannedparenthood.org) and Gilda’s Club of Western Pennsylvania (gildasclubwesternpa.org). Starting this month for every sofa Weisshouse sells they will donate a percentage to Women for Women International (womenforwomen.org), a charity helping women survivors of war rebuild their lives. Weiss adds, “We have a responsibility to foster these women—I want to do what I can to help.
