From TVs to Tires – Where You Can Dump the Stuff Trash Haulers Won’t Take

The Pennsylvania Resource Council is hosting a number of recycling events, and the first one is Saturday.

What: Household Chemicals
When: 8:45 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, July 24
Where: Freeport Middle School
Advanced Registration Required: Register here or call 412/488-7490 x3
Items Accepted: A $20 fee will cover the cost of disposing up to 10 gallons/50 pounds of aerosol cans, automotive fluids, chemistry sets, gasoline and kerosene, household cleaners, mercury thermometers, paint products, pesticides/garden chemicals, photo chemicals and pool chemicals. Loads exceeding 10 gallons/50 pounds will be subject to additional fees at the discretion of the on-site staff.  Participants will also pay $12 per fire extinguisher and $15 per pound of liquid mercury.
How it works: Pack all materials in your car trunk or truck beds and remain in your vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials.

What: Hard to Recycle Items
When: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, July 31
Where: La Roche University, McCandless
Advanced Registration Required: Register here or call 412/488-7490 x3
Items Accepted: There is a fee to drop off televisions, computer monitors, printers, fluorescent tubes, small Freon appliances and tires (with and without rims). At no cost, you can drop off cell/home phones, computer towers and peripheral equipment (keyboards, laptops, mice, etc.), expanded polystyrene packaging material, microwave ovens, video game consoles/DVD players and glass bottles, jugs and jars.
How it works: Pack all materials in your car trunk or truck beds and remain in your vehicles while the contractor unloads the materials.
