HealCrest Urban Farms offers 42 flavors of teapops made from herbal tea blends and fresh fruit.

 


HEALCREST URBAN FARMS THINKS OUTSIDE THE CUP WITH TEAPOP OFFERING
With warm weather making a brief comeback, there’s still time to try a relatively new frozen treat. We’re talking about artisanal teapops made with herbal tea blends and fresh fruit.

These pops were created by the folks at HealCrest Urban Farms, where the staff converted a 1.7-acre Garfield lot into a self-sustaining garden in 2005. Unique flavors from the 42-option list include sage blossom and peaches & lilac cream. HealCrest makes available five of its varieties each week at Klavon’s Ice Cream Parlor and the La Palapa booth inside Pittsburgh Public Market. You can also get a pop while bidding farewell to summer at the final Weather Permitting event, held Sunday night at Shadyside Nursery.

FOOD FIGHT TRUCK ROLLS THROUGH BEAVER COUNTY
Count Kenda Daubenspeck among the newcomers to our region’s mobile-food scene. Operating the playfully named Food Fight Truck, Daubenspeck has created a “battle between what we should eat and what we want to eat.” Her menu is split into health-conscious and indulgent items — wraps, salads, tacos and burgers — hence the placement of halos and pitchforks next to offerings. You can find Daubenspeck at the New Brighton car cruise tomorrow until 8 p.m.

POPULAR SOUP SEGA! KICKS OFF NEW SEASON
If you haven’t already noted it on your calendar, we’re here to remind you: Tomorrow marks the start of Soup Sega! season at the Bulgarian Macedonian National Educational and Cultural Center. The center’s culinary program, which runs through Memorial Day, has become quite popular during its 14 years in existence. Each Saturday, locals line up to buy homemade soups, available in frozen half- and whole-quart sizes. Having access to made-from-scratch soup is appealing, yes. Also remember that these varieties — cabbage and tomato, creamy mushroom, and Balkan bean, to name a few — are, in most cases, gluten-free, vegetarian and even vegan. Stock your freezer now so you’re prepared for the cold months ahead.
