Fall Weddings 2019
I was surprised at how willing Michelle and Ryan Shazier were to share details of their lives because most people in the public eye typically are a little guarded.
When I interviewed Michelle and Ryan Shazier for our cover story, I was struck by two things: how open they were and their clear infatuation with each other, even though they’ve been together for four years and parent two children together. They teased each other as often only newlyweds can, and their affection was evident in their voices when I asked what they loved most about their spouse.
I was surprised at how willing they were to share details of their lives because most people in the public eye typically are a little guarded. I expected the words “off the record” to come up quite a bit, but they never did. They didn’t hesitate to share any and all details about their day, from incorporating their young children in the wedding to how they felt after Ryan’s injury to various other details of their personal lives.
Instead of a short interview with few details revealed, I spoke for more than 40 minutes with two people willing to share their love story and wedding details just like the other couples we feature in our 11 Real Pittsburgh Weddings. Ryan and Michelle may be in the public eye, but if you strip that away, they’re just a bride and groom excited to talk about their relationship.
People often ask me why I love weddings so much, and part of it is that a wedding day is a great equalizer. Whether it’s an extravagant affair or a small backyard celebration, every wedding is, at its heart, a celebration of love.
