Even the Penguins Helped to ‘Shear Da Beard’ This Year
A who’s-who of Pittsburgh legends were on hand Monday night to help shave what may be Pittsburgh’s most famous beard.

In this noble (if strange) fundraising effort for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel invites those affected by pediatric cancer and his Pittsburgh sports superfriends to take turns clipping his famed beard. Monday's event was the seventh year in a row Keisel has submitted to the shears.
The raucous night at Jergel's Rhythm Grill in Warrendale brought in Steelers James Harrison, Cam Heyward and coach Mike Tomlin, the Penguins’ famed HBK line, and WWE superstar Shawn Michaels, among others.
According to the Tribune Review, Monday’s event was expected to bring the total raised since 2011 to more than $300,000.
Joining Keisel on-stage were two pediatric cancer patients, 15-year-old Sean and 6-year-old Jimmy.
“That's what this is about,” Keisel said to the crowd. “It's fun to see teammates and friends and some great beards, but that's what it's about. Coming together and doing something positive, showing these young people in the building that it's important to give back and help your neighbor.”
And you have to admit, Keisel cleans up nicely. But nothing replaces da beard.
