Easy Day-to-Night Makeup for Your Wedding Day

Quick changes like these will keep you looking fresh for photos … without holding up the cake cutting so you can overhaul your entire look.

Just because you’ve made that “’till death do us part” vow to your life partner doesn’t mean you also have to commit to one makeup look for your wedding. Why not have fun with it? Switch things up by creating a buildable base that will take you from walking down the aisle to rocking the dance floor.

“A lot of the brides now change into a different dress at the reception, which also means a quick change of makeup as well,” says professional makeup artist Patty Bell.

It starts with the foundation. Fill in your brows, dust the perimeter of the forehead and hollows of your cheeks with light contour and bronzer, and pop on some blush and highlighter to the cheekbones for a flushed glow.

Here’s where you can get creative, making minimal changes to the eyes and lips for the ultimate day-to-night look.

Begin with light-to-medium toned eyeshadows. That doesn’t mean you have to stick with neutral browns. If purple is your thing, go for it. Most palettes have a graduated color spectrum, so just stick with the subtler end of your chosen shade for the ceremony. You can add drama later by darkening the outer crease with a deeper pigment and adding false lashes.

Same idea with lipstick. For the formalities, mimic the look of your natural lip by choosing a nude with a pink, peach or taupe undertone. Once you’re hitched, remove the nude hue and get the party started by swiping on a bold red, fuchsia or berry shade.
