Bound for Miami This Winter? You Have New Options to Get There

Another airline will begin offering nonstop flights to Miami International Airport from PIT beginning Nov. 15.

Summer is winding down in the ’Burgh, but that doesn’t mean you can’t escape the city’s bitter cold for a getaway to the Sunshine State.

Spirit Airlines will begin nonstop service to Miami from Pittsburgh International Airport, on Nov. 15. The addition will make Spirit the second airline to offer nonstop service to Miami, joining American Airlines.

Daily flights will leave Miami International Airport at 8 a.m. and arrive in Pittsburgh at 10:39 a.m.; return flights will depart from PIT at 11:29 a.m. and arrive at MIA at 2:15 p.m. 

The no-frills airline also will resume its daily, nonstop seasonal flights to two other Florida cities, Fort Myers and Tampa, on Nov. 15. Southwest also provides routes to these cities..

In other airline news, Breeze Airways will launch nonstop service to Tampa on Oct. 5, and Fort Myers on Nov. 15.

Pittsburgh has seen a spike in the number of passengers traveling to Florida in recent years.

According to a Blue Sky News press release, a publication of Pittsburgh International Airport, PIT saw its largest quarterly number of passengers traveling to and from Florida in more than two decades during the first quarter of 2023.

The most popular destination is Orlando, followed by Tampa, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers.

Service to Orlando is also expected to increase this fall with more flights scheduled by Southwest and Spirit airlines, as well as existing service by Allegiant and Frontier airlines.
