As the Big Pour draws to a close, a patron drinks from a beer-stein carved from pure ice.

For the fourth year running, the Big Pour was a resounding success. The congregation of restaurants and breweries benefitted Construction Junction. It was also a showcase for musicians and artists, including this chainsaw-sculptor from West Virginia.

Mobs of hungry carnivores arrived for the Coors Light Kickoff and Rib Festival. Huddled in the shadow of PNC Park, the Festival served thousands of half-racks and slices of cornbread to celebrate Labor Day and the start of football season. Vendors arrived from all over the country to offer their top-secret barbeque recipes.

A stray cat mills about in Point Breeze. Neighbors have fed the cat for years, but the animal refuses to come too close. Ironically, this feral feline makes its home only a few blocks from the Animal Rescue League.

A World War II ship docks on the North Side, drawing thousands of visitors. A veteran of the D-Day Normandy invasion, the LST 325 arrived in Pittsburgh this month after a long tour of the Ohio River. Boarding the ship was competitive; lines stretched along the riverfront trail, and many never stepped inside the hold.

Just beyond an endangered payphone and a defunct sign for "electric calculators," a mural is sketched onto a brick wall in Oakland. This is the latest creation of the Public Art Project, made possible by the Sprout Fund.

Commuters wait for their bus as the former Children's Hospital is slowly torn down in the background. Since the new Children's Hospital was opened in Bloomfield last year, the old facility has been dismantled in stages, exposing layers of offices and examination rooms.

Bees cavort at the entrance of their hive, thanks to the Burgh Bees apiary. The apiary is located in an unassuming nook of Braddock. The apiary produces high-quality honey, and Burgh Bees founders assert that honey-farms are a great use of urban space.

In McConnell's Mill State Park, caterpillars weave massive nests in the foliage. This summer saw unusual migrations of insects, particularly beetles.

Patrons lounge outside The Coffee Tree Roasters, a brand-new branch opened in the Bakery Square Development. This is the fifth location of the local mini-chain. Not only can patrons enjoy locally-brewed java; the outdoor patio often hosts musicians as well.
