Allegheny College directs grant to support community health
Colleges and universities can make a significant impact on the communities in which they make their homes. Thanks to an anonymous donation of $750,000, Allegheny College will partner with Crawford County and Meadville entities over the next three years to boost community well-being through programs focused on food, nutrition and physical activity.
California University of Pennsylvania fosters science learning
When it comes to science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) it’s never too early to get a leg up. In the spirit of advanced learning for all, California University of Pennsylvania offers Innovator Wednesdays, a weekly project-based learning series aimed at sixth- to eighth-graders. Ranging from robotics to space engineering, the Wednesday sessions feature hands-on instruction from certified teachers for $20. Saint Vincent Summer Theatre presents “A Grand Night for Singing,” a compilation musical featuring the works of Rodgers and Hammerstein. The pair wrote such classics as “The Sound of Music,” “State Fair” and “Oklahoma!” Clever lyrics set to winning melodies will whisk audience members away from the summer heat to the myriad worlds created by one of theater’s greatest duos.
