Fashion from countries all over the world will be represented on April 20 at La Roche College.
The annual GLOBE Fashion Show will feature fashions from Kenya, China, India, Burundi, Syria, Spain and many more nations. The event will offer a variety of activities, crafts and food, as well as an auction of prize baskets and gift cards.
“The GLOBE Fashion Show is a chance for students to proudly represent not only their respective countries, but those of their peers, so this event has been a very intentional way of bringing together our multicultural community,” says Candace Okello, La Roche’s director of diversity and inclusion and staff adviser to GLOBE, in a press release. “It’s important to take advantage of these cross-cultural engagement opportunities because it’s how we learn, and it’s how we grow and see that regardless of how we identify, we can coexist and have true unity.”
GLOBE (Globalization for La Roche College, One Beat on Earth) is a student organization that encourages intellectual dialogue and friendship among international and American students. The organization is sponsoring and organizing the event with the help of other students at the college, and it has also partnered with businesses to acquire donations.
“All of the money donated goes toward the Global Peace Building Foundation, which is an organization that is focused on helping youth and children in conflict-affected areas to overcome fear, hatred, stereotypes and prejudice,” says GLOBE President and La Roche senior Kristen Krivak.
Students running the show are responsible for coordinating models, performers and crew members, event promotion, collecting outfits and donations, setting up the event venue and arranging rehearsals.
A pre-show kicks off the event at 6 p.m., and the fashion show will begin at 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
