How We Roll: Where Is Pittsburgh’s Newest Roller Rink?
“Skate the Square” will be open through May 25.
Lace up your roller skates like it’s 1990 and head down to Market Square.
Skate the Square, Pittsburgh’s newest roller rink, has arrived for a limited time only in the newly renovated plaza; it will be open daily through May 25 alongside a lineup of DJs, markets and special events.
“You can skate, gather, snap selfies or simply enjoy the music and energy from the sidelines,” according to a post by the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership. “With drinks, live music and a retro vibe, this brand-new activation is guaranteed to get you moving.”
The rink is open weekdays from 4 to 10 p.m. and on weekends from noon to 10 p.m., although certain dates have additional hours to accommodate special events; on May 14 and May 21, it will also be open 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. so skaters can also attend the Market Square Farmers Market, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Thursday from May 14 through Sept. 24.
Tickets are $17 for 75 minutes of skating, skates included; visitors can bring their own skates, but the price will remain the same. While the rink is open to all ages, teenagers are subject to Market Square’s new temporary policy, which requires adult supervision for everyone under the age of 18 Thursday through Sunday from 3 p.m. to midnight.
The rink opened officially on May 7 with a Kick Off Night party, and then hosted ‘90s weekend with DJ Colt May 8-9.
This week, it will host DJ Magic Mike on May 14 for Country Nite and DJ Kristyles May 15-16 for Disco Weekend. Next weekend, May 22-23, is Girly Pop Weekend, featuring DJ Kristyles and DJ Fuzzy.
