When it opened nearly four years ago, the Greek bakery and café Anthos instantly made Castle Shannon a brunch and lunch destination. Now dinner is on the menu, with extended hours on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays until 8 p.m. Grab a bottle of wine (they’re BYOB) and try the Greek salads, pastitsio or mushroom toast. — Betsy Benson, Publisher
Choices, Choices
Three new small businesses are now open in Downtown. Origin Story Coffee (306 Smithfield St.) serves coffee and baked goods while Ruckus Cafe (625 Liberty Ave.) offers coffee, music, food and art. Con Alma is asking for the public’s help. In December, the popular jazz venue and restaurant launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay the bills after financial strain caused by the pandemic, as well as the decision to open a second location, became too much. While the Downtown location remains open, Con Alma’s original location in Shadyside closed in 2023. — JS
