The Most Beautiful Ice-Skating Rink in the Country Is Right Here in Pittsburgh
The UPMC Rink at PPG Place celebrates its 25th birthday this year.
It was no chilly reception for Pittsburgh’s UPMC Rink at PPG Place: our own beloved ice-skating rink was voted the most beautiful in the United States.
The honor was bestowed by travel group Premier Inn, which used eye-tracking technology to determine which rinks were most visually appealing to observers. More than 50 international ice rinks were included, and Pittsburgh was the only North American city to land in the top ten — at an impressive #9.
The Kö on Ice Rink in Düsseldorf, Germany, took the top overall spot. Other close U.S. competitors were the Rink at Rockefeller Center (New York City, #14), Curry Village Ice Skating Rink (Yosemite Valley, #16) and Frankenmuth Ice Rink (Michigan, #19).
Remind your sweetheart that size matters — Rockefeller Center may get more press, but our own downtown rink is a whopping 67% larger. Plenty of space to show off your triple axel, and there’s a buy-one-get-one-half-off deal on Valentine’s Day.
The UPMC Rink at PPG Place celebrates its 25th birthday this year, surrounded by the gleaming towers of PPG Place. Depending on the weather, skating typically lasts through early March.
