A focus on education — in classrooms, workplaces or through community mentorship — is a thread that runs through many of the 40 Under 40 honorees in the Class of 2025. There’s also an owner of a small farm, nonprofit leaders, tech innovators, researchers, a space museum director, medical professionals and even the owner of a company that produces vinyl records. Now in its 27th year, the program, sponsored by Pittsburgh Magazine and PUMP, drew 250 nominations. A 20-member independent judging panel — made up of business, health-care, nonprofit and community leaders, as well as former 40 Under 40 honorees — selected the honorees based not only on their career achievements but also their community service. The class gathered for their photo shoot on a sunny September day at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, which this year celebrates its 10th anniversary. The 65-acre attraction, featuring cultivated gardens and woodlands and located in Collier and North Fayette townships, is for the first time on pace to draw 100,000 paid visitors in 2025.
