Meet Bertha

This gorgeous five-year-old Cane Corso may look like a big, serious lady—but once she gets to know you, she’s all heart. Bertha came to us through a Humane Investigations case with the City of Pittsburgh, and while her past wasn’t the easiest, she hasn’t let that stop her from showing off her sweet, gentle side.

Bertha is searching for a special home with someone who has experience with Cane Corsos or other guardian breeds—because this girl is both beauty and brawn! She’ll need a family who understands her size and strength but also appreciates her soft, affectionate personality.

She’d love a calm home where children are 13 and older and can respect her space, and she may even be open to sharing her home with another pup (pending a proper meet-and-greet). With her medium energy level, she’s the perfect mix of playtime buddy and couch companion.

Did you know that DOGust 1st is the universal birthday for shelter dogs without known birthdates? Many of our amazing canine residents came to us with stories we may never fully know — but what we do know is that every dog deserves to feel special and celebrated. So why stop at just one day?

All month long, we’re celebrating DOGUST — a month-long birthday bash for our shelter dogs who’ve already celebrated their first birthday. From August 1 through August 31, requested adoption donations are completely waived for all dogs over one year of age.

But the paw-ty doesn’t stop there:

• Sponsor a Dog: Help us keep the celebration going by sponsoring an adoption!
• Shop the Birthday Wish list: Our pups have been making birthday wishes, and you can help them come true!
• Enrichment Every Day: From birthday-themed treats to playful activities, we’re making sure every dog gets the royal treatment this month!
