Another streaming series is coming to the Pittsburgh area for filming.

The Apple TV+ series, based on Lars Kepler’s bestselling book series “Killer Instinct,” stars Tony Award-winner Liev Schreiber and will begin filming in Pittsburgh this summer.

Schreiber, who starred in Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” and the Academy Award Best Picture winner “Spotlight,” plays a homicide detective in this still untitled series who moves to Western Pennsylvania and tries to protect his family from a serial killer, played by Stephen Graham (HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire”), according to an Apple TV+ announcement.

This is just the latest in several shows and movies filming in the area. The “Hershey” biopic began filming earlier this summer with director Mark Waters, and David Leitch’s show “How to Rob a Bank” starring Nicholas Hoult, Zoë Kravitz and Pete Davidson announced a recent casting call.

The 10-episode Apple TV+ series is expected to create more than 3,500 new jobs and generate $108 million for Pennsylvania’s economy, according to a release issued last week by the state Department of Community and Economic Development.

The series is set to receive $32.4 million in tax credits through the Pennsylvania Film Production Tax Credit Program. The program offers a 25% tax credit to productions that spend at least 60% of their total budget in the state.

Pennsylvania Film Commissioner Gino Anthony Pesi recognized the importance of the tax credit for the Allegheny County area.

“We worked closely with A&E to approve this film production tax credit quickly, helping to create and support jobs for our local crews,” Pesi said in the state release. “We’re excited to welcome this new series to Allegheny County and hope they continue filming here in our commonwealth for years to come.”

Unlike movies, TV series often bring long-term benefits to the city. While a movie may only be in production for a couple of weeks or months, TV shows can be in production off and on for several years. The “Mayor of Kingstown,” for example, a Paramount+ series starring Jeremy Renner, is currently shooting its fourth season in the region.

Barry Jossen, president and head of A+E Studios, in a release, expressed his excitement for the upcoming project and the potential for economic growth in the region.

“The production tax credit is not only instrumental in bringing our series to life, but also in generating meaningful economic opportunity throughout western Pennsylvania,” Jossen said. “We look forward to working with the talented local crews and showcasing the region’s dynamic landscapes and communities on screen.”

The series is being written and executive produced by BAFTA Award winner Rowan Joffe (“Tin Star”) and John Hlavin (“Shooter”). It is being produced by A+E Studios in association with Range Studios.

The first two episodes will be directed and executive produced by Emmy, Peabody and DGA Award winner Tim Van Patten (“Black Mirror”).
