After being sidelined for the 2024 Kennywood season, The Steel Curtain reopens this Saturday at 11 a.m.

At 220 feet, the tallest coaster in Pennsylvania takes riders on a 76-mile-per-hour journey along 4,000 feet of track that includes nine upside-down moments (the most in the United States) and the highest inversion in North America.

I tackled The Steel Curtain this morning in the rain with a camera filming my entire panic attack for posterity. It was a rush, but I was happy to touchdown.

“We can’t wait to reintroduce this iconic coaster to our guests,” General Manager Ricky Spicuzza says. With a heightened focus on the Steel Curtain’s reliability, this summer, guests can expect to hop on for a ride during every visit to Kennywood.”

Park officials spent a year working with the coaster’s manufacturer, S&S Worldwide, and third-party engineers to add three new columns and additional braces throughout the ride. This modification decreased its structural movement, ultimately allowing it to make more cycles throughout its life span.
