5 Best Retro Shops in Pittsburgh

For anyone looking for a perfect #throwback picture to post, head here first.

What’s old almost always becomes new again. Who doesn’t miss ’90s video games or ’50s home decor? Shopping vintage is a fun way to set your style apart from the crowd. Many of those stores buy and sell — so if you’ve got some old games, clothes or decor lying around, why not let someone else make use of it? These local stores sell everything from gaming consoles from years past to pill-box hats and blazers with shoulder pads. Get in your car — it doesn’t have to be a DeLorean — and check them out.

8 bit Evolution

One of this year’s vendors at the Pittsburgh Retro Gaming Expo, 8 bit evolution will let you become your inner child … while you’re in the store, at least. The spot sells Gameboy Advances, custom-painted vintage game soles such as Sega Genesis and Nintendo 64, gaming T-shirts and other products for true-blue video-game nerds. Buy or sell your games online or at the brick-and-mortar store.

Hey Betty!

If Betty Draper’s style has you obsessed, check out Hey Betty!. It’s the place to go first to find vintage clothing for men or women, especially if there is a specific time period in mind. Store owners have bought and sold vintage clothes for more than 30 years and have the digs to prove it. The store is known to sell to movie crews in need of period-esque clothing. Even celebrities have shopped there, including Robert Downey Jr.

Eons Fashion Antique

Chances are, no one will be sporting the same necklace at your next big event if yours is from Eons. Eons sells clothing, mostly women’s, but the accessories are something else. Much of the inventory could be classified as costume jewelry — so perhaps not wearable for everyday  — but the pieces each have the right amount of unique spirit for a special occasion.

WHO NEW? Retro Mod Decor

WHO NEW? is your best bet for a variety of vintage home decor — primarily from the 1950s, ’60s and ’70s. The store’s “ghost” chairs, made of amber polycarbonate, will open up small spaces and complement large ones. Other mod decor staples include free-standing ice buckets, bar carts and whimsical animal-shaped ceramic planters. Pick up that old-timey sofa you’ve always wanted or just a new (-to-you) martini glass.
