Creative Director, Deeper Than Grits Studios

It’s not uncommon for someone to hear the name Corey Carrington and immediately ask, “What’s he up to now?”

When he’s not curating an art exhibit or tutoring kids in creative writing, Carrington is performing spoken word. Or representing other artists through his creative agency, Deeper Than Grits Studios. Or working on his clothing line.

“I’m just an all-around creative person,” he says. “I’m a community connector. I’m a cultural connector.”

Carrington was Contemporary Craft’s first Emerging Black Arts Leader Apprentice, curated the all-Black-artist exhibit “BREATHE” at iamb gallery at City Books after Eric Garner’s homicide at the hands of New York City police and next year will be curating an exhibit with four BIPOC artists doing contemporary responses to the Maxo Vanka Murals at St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale in honor of its 80th anniversary.

“I’m just always working, always hustling, always going to the next thing and working on the next opportunity,” he says.
