2011 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port

This wine boasts aromas of cream de cassis, licorice and spice and is a good match for chili, if you're looking to experiment with flavor pairings.

Wine enthusiasts treasure true port wines. Many countries manufacture their own versions of the variety but cannot come close to the quality of ports produced in Portugal.
The two basic types are wood- and bottle-aged. Wood-aged ports include ruby, tawny, white, colheita and late-bottled vintage. Bottle-aged ports, known as vintage ports, are vintage-dated and produced only in select vintages. The fermentation for those is arrested with neutral high-proof spirits, resulting in a sweet, fortified wine.

One of my favorites is the 2011 Taylor Fladgate [$45.99 for 375 mL; PLCB code 43189], which is purple-black in color. 

The wine, which received a score of 96 on my personal scale, boasts aromas of cream de cassis, licorice and spice. The concentrated fruit flavors are rich with sweet tannins and a hint of chocolate in the finish. Enjoy this port post-meal with Stilton cheese. To experiment, pair with a bowl of chili.
