1,000 Points Earns Crosby His Own Primanti Bros. Sandwich
Unlike previous Penguins-inspired sandwiches, Crosby’s “The Captain” could be on the menu for years to come.
When Sidney Crosby scored his 1,000th point Thursday night, it was not only a milestone in his storied career, but it was also reason for a gastronomical celebration.
Within hours of Crosby’s achievement, Primanti Bros. unveiled its newest menu item, “The Captain.”

The sandwich is anchored by layers of capicola, turkey and roast beef and topped with what the restaurant chain says is a “record-setting pile” of cheese, fries, coleslaw and tomato.
Last season, Primanti’s dreamed up a ham, bacon and kielbasa sandwich to honor the Penguins’ HBK link of Carl Hagelin, Nick Bonino and Phil Kessel, but it was available only for a limited time. “The Captain” is expected to have a much longer shelf life.
It “will be around as long as Crosby keeps scoring,” the restaurant said in a news release.
