Just off of bustling Forbes Avenue sits a striking contemporary structure with an open window design that floods the space with natural light during the day — and enables it to glow in the dark at night. Owned (and created) by Eat’n Park Hospitality Group, The Porch at Schenley completely captures the company’s latest direction — and is the final portion of Schenley Plaza’s 10-year renovation plan.
Modern and polished with urban touches, it embodies the ideals of green construction, thanks to the skilled work of design firm WD Partners; the eatery boasts a living roof that supplies fresh goods, and recycled materials and glass were mainly used in its construction — all of which attributed to it qualifying for LEED silver status (and earning high praise).
Inside, the look is simple and relaxed — a perfect complement to the American fare, with high ceilings, an open floor plan, earth tones and an overall upbeat vibe. Patrons are accommodated via booths, a bar, and family-style and four-seater tables — there’s even patio seating (weather permitting, of course).
The Porch is hopping from sun up (when breakfast sandwiches are served at a takeout window that’s used throughout the day) to sun down (when it offers a tasty pizza deal for the night owls). During warmer months, Porch staffers open the garage doors facing Schenley Plaza’s emerald lawn, letting fresh air breeze through. What’s more, executive chef Kevin Hermann will head up summertime pig roasts and barbecues, ensuring that the lovely patio is used to its fullest.
The Porch is a place where you can come as you are and be a part of the green movement, admiring the eatery’s remarkable, eco-friendly features while sipping a refreshing Almost Arnie cocktail or enjoying the popular cast-iron cornbread.
