02/22/10Offensive Winter DrivingIf you’ve never had a fear of driving in winter weather, a surefire way to gain that fear is to wake up in a death spin on an icy bridge to see your sister frantically turning the steering wheel this way and that way and this way like she’s in a bumper car at Kennywood, all the while screaming like a howler monkey. It began ten years ago on an icy bridge in the middle of hell. I’M SO EXCITED. I’M GOING TO NAP NOW! BYE!” But it’s there in my head. A memory of my father and mother in the driver and passenger seats, respectively. My four sisters and me in the back seat and the WAY back seat as we called it, of the station wagon. Kids, a station wagon is a short minivan without swiveling captain’s chairs, or DVD players... 01/29/10New! PittGirl Blog - PittsburghMagazine.com exclusiveI have been blogging about Pittsburgh for four years now, if you don’t count that tiny little teeny tiny microscopic eight-month break I took prior to August of 2009. And I have written for Pittsburgh Magazine for about seven months now, covering topics ranging from Mr. Rogers to WINTER! to the Steelers and most recently to the fact that I’m kind of a fair-weather, bandwagon-hopping sports fan. Now, in addition to my own little piece of Internet real estate over at That’s Church, you can read me right here! What’s changing in my magazine column? Nothing. What’s changing at That’s Church? Not a thing.Really?Really! As a person who reads about Pittsburgh as voraciously as I do and who loves the city as much as I do, finding things to write...
