The following list of 2025 spring high school musicals first appeared at onstagepittsburgh.com, a website dedicated to coverage of the performing arts in the Greater Pittsburgh region. OnStage Pittsburgh is changing things up for the annual listing of Western Pennsylvania spring high school musicals, 2025 edition.

As February begins, more than a dozen schools are nearly on the eve of their performances, while others have months before curtain. As we continue to seek out upcoming shows and update the listing, we are kicking off earlier than usual, to accommodate the schools that are first out of the starting gate.

If you are looking for trends among 100+ schools in our region, you may notice that a Teen Edition of “Hadestown, the Tony Award-winning musical that is still on Broadway, has sprung up five times amid the 2025 listing. There’s also a whole lot of dancing going on, with “Footloose” at five schools. The roller-skating show “Xanadu” makes two appearances on the list.

For awards show season, the 2025 Gene Kelly Awards for Excellence in High School Musical Theater will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Benedum Center. The Kellys, representing participating schools in Allegheny County, were launched by Pittsburgh CLO in 1991 “to recognize and encourage student achievement and to focus the attention of the community and school districts on the importance of musical theater and arts education.”

The 31st annual Henri Mancini Awards (Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties), presented by the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center, are Sunday, May 18, 2025.

The winners of outstanding actor and actress at the Kellys and Mancinis are eligible to participate at the National High School Musical Theater Awards (the Jimmy Awards), June 23, 2025, at the Minskoff Theatre, home of Broadway’s “The Lion King.”

NOTE: Some high schools have not yet posted public links to their musical’s information. Sources for this listing include ticket sites, school calendars, phone confirmations and the Gene Kelly and Mancini Awards listings.
