Jessica Minkus lived in several states before finding her place in Western Pennsylvania in 2006.

“I moved to Pittsburgh to build my life and career here,” she says. “I am proud to call it my hometown.”

Now the CEO of Bookminders, which provides outsourced accounting services to nonprofits, governmental entities and businesses, Minkus started as staff accountant with the company shortly after moving to the region. Over the years, she’s grown alongside Bookminders, which has locations in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Indianapolis, South Jersey, Eastern Maryland and Central Texas.

“In 2018, I became the COO, where I focused on refining our operations and scaling our service model. Then in 2022, I was honored to step into the role of CEO,” Minkus says. “It’s been incredibly rewarding to lead a company where I’ve built my career, surrounded by a team that is just as committed to excellence and innovation as I am.”

As the company’s leader, Minkus oversees Bookminders’ strategic operations and growth initiatives, including driving organizational success while fostering a supportive and innovative workplace culture.

Strategic and thoughtful, Minkus values clarity, accountability and continuous improvement in the workplace.

“I believe in setting a clear vision and empowering others to take ownership and thrive,” she says. “My style is grounded in listening, thoughtful decision making and long-term thinking. I strive to nurture a culture where people feel respected, challenged and supported.”

In 2023, the company implemented a Team Advisors program designed to supplement management teams and ensure staff has consistent access to guidance, support and mentorship with a focus on growing intentionally and sustainably.

Throughout the years, Bookminders has received the 2024 Empowering Women Award from the Daily Record, earned the Pittsburgh Smart 50 Award from Smart Business Magazine and, for several years, been recognized as a Top Workplace, including securing the No.1 spot in 2024. Most recently, Bookminders was recognized as the Best Workplace by WomELLE.

“These accolades reflect the strength of our culture, the quality of our work and the dedication of every individual who contributes to our success,” Minkus says.

Minkus also serves as treasurer of AscenderPgh, a community for entrepreneurs, and as the co-president of the Peters Township High School Boys Lacrosse Booster Club.
