What’s It Like to Take Part in the Taste Buds Event?
Pittsburgh Magazine creative director (and Pasta Beard founder) Huck Beard served up homemade meatballs with his sous-chef, Luccia Harpalini, as part of the annual event to raise funds for the Best Buddies organization.
What a thrill and honor to take part in this year’s Taste Buds event. My sous-chef buddy, Luccia Harpalini, and I served meatballs and marinara to more than 800 guests at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center on Monday night.
The annual event is a fundraiser for the Best Buddies organization, which supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. For the 8th year, some of Pittsburgh’s top chefs paired with their Buddies to cook up signature dishes for the crowds.
Some of the other participating restaurants included Aptera, Alta Via, EYV, Iron Born, Millie’s Ice Cream and The Vandal. (At Pasta Beard, we offer onsite handmade pasta classes for home cooks, parties, corporate get-togethers and special events.)
Luccia and I met twice to make pasta and red sauce, and we decided on meatballs for the big night. One thousand meatballs later, our Pasta Beard table was ready. I’m already looking forward to next year!
