Watch: The Penguins Touching Tribute Video to Tree of Life Victims

The Pens presented a heartfelt video tribute at Tuesday night's game.

The Pittsburgh Penguins continued their efforts to help the city heal after Saturday’s tragedy at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill.

Tuesday night’s game against the New York Islanders was originally scheduled to be the Penguins’ annual Halloween theme night, which the team cancelled after Saturday’s events. Instead, before the puck dropped the Pens held an 11-second moment of silence in honor of the 11 people who lost their lives at the Tree of Life Synagogue. The video above played on the big screen to an emotional audience of fans.

Both teams wore “Stronger than Hate” patches or decals on their uniforms during the game. Pittsburgh police officers Anthony Burke and Mike Smigda, who were injured while responding to the call at the synagogue, participated in a ceremonial puck drop with Chief of Police Scott Schubert.

The Penguins also held a blood drive at PPG Paints Arena on Monday and collected donations to support the families and victims of the shooting at the arena entrance gates before Tuesday’s game.
